Block O Table...

our honor defend, which is a most glorious blog dedicated to ohio state athletics, has introduced a little thing known as "block O table" which poses thoughts and questions for the blogosphere to respond to. most of the time the blogs thats take part in the table are those blogs either dedicated to ohio state sports or just sports in general. while i cover the buckeyes almost full-time during football season, my topics veer off course for the rest of the year - something i know most of you are thankful for.

today i am participating in the block O table, and there is nothing you can do about it. sure, people will try to stop me - ill most likely have to kill a guy or ram my car through a road block in order to get this entry done, but i am focused and ready and ill stab you in the throat if you get in my way.

01. Evan Turner was not named the Big Ten Player of the Year. This is A) highway robbery or B) petty theft or C) good call/no big deal (I didn’t need my wallet, car keys and shoes anyways, sir)? Really though, do you feel Turner was jobbed? Why?

do i think evan turner was the most valuable player in the big ten this season? yes, i certainly do. i think if you take lucas off of MSU, they still have a fairly good year and they would still be dancing come sunday evening. you take evan turner away from ohio state and the bucks would probably have turned on thad matta, and dallas lauderdale would have at some point taken advantage of jon diebler in a rather unfortunate way. if you catch my drift. MVPs rarely go to the most valuable player, and i have never liked the term as the award is almost always given to the leagues best player or the leagues best player on the best team.

02. You might have noticed, but the women’s basketball team has been on quite a roll recently. They won their 5th straight Big Ten title and won their second Big Ten tournament. They’re destined to play their first two games in Columbus and will, by all logic, be on ESPN/ESPN2 for it. Do you plan to follow them as well or am I really the only one who cares about this team?

umm, i think its just you. ill start paying attention to the ohio state girls team when they start making it out of the second round of the NCAA tournament. also, you cannot tell me that you IN ANY WAY enjoy watching womens basketball. have you seen the highlight commercial for big tens ladies hoops on the big ten network? the clips they use are absolutely hilarious. WOW LOOK AT THAT BOUNCE PASS! AND MAN WHAT ABOUT THAT TWO HANDED SHOT PUT LAYUP ATTEMPT! AND WOW WHAT AN INTENSE BOUNCE PASS!

so yeah, you might be the only one watching ohio state girls basketball.

03. The single biggest thing Ohio State’s men’s team needs to do/change/get in order to turn this team back into a national title contender is ______________. Why?

absolutely nothing. this is what happens when you recruit the best players in the country - sometimes they stay a few years, sometimes you get ultra unlucky and they all leave after a single season. look at florida - they won back to back national titles and they probably wont make the dance this year for the second straight season. you cant tell me that the florida basketball program isnt something we would one day like to become. if you want to compete with the north carolinas, dukes, floridas and uconns of the world, this is the route you are going to have to take. we all saw what happened during jim obriens time when he only recruited players that he knew would stick around for four years. i dont want any part of that ever again. if your down years include winning the postseason NIT one season and going dancing the next season, id say your problems arent really that big anyway...

04. The person on the mens’ team that has been most disappointing this season is ____________. Explain.

it has to be bj mullens, right? i mean you could make a case for lauderdale, but our expectations for dallas were a bit skewed after he came out the gates looking like a werewolf with a chainsaw for a penis early in the non conference schedule. bj was supposed to be the next big thing at OSU - a guy who was going to dominate so much that he would have no choice but to go pro early. im not saying he was terrible - he won the big ten sixth man of the year award, and its not like he can control whether or not our "point guards" are trying to get him the ball in the post. but i think its safe to say that we all expected a little more out of bj this season.

05. This country finally had an election that had some kind of purpose and value. I’m talking, of course, about the Whitest Man Election held at Club Trillion. Shenanigans followed and there was no clear winner. Nevertheless, who did you vote for in this most important election and why?

i voted for kyle madsen, and i think you should have too. the reason i voted for kyle was because they were playing by the stuff white people like rules, and mentioned the website more than a couple times. kyle is from dublin and spent some time at vanderbilt - im not sure you can get whiter than that.

also, the results were shady to say the least. a tie? right. no tiebreaker? sure. the contest is now over, never to be mentioned again? yeah, that makes sense.

Extra Credit: Call your shot here: how far do the Buckeyes get in the Big Ten Tournament?

not far. i think a loss tomorrow against wisconsin is likely. the badgers are hot hot hot right now, though the bucks did beat notre dame in the same building earlier this season. that game was at conseco, right? in any case, i suspect wisky will own us on the glass and make anywhere from seventy to ninety treys along the way.

seacrest out.
